Yes a blast from the 90's but a really good way to keep in touch while in a long convoy, I thought it would be a good idea for some of us to have them fitted for the run to Belgium, what do you guy's think. I have fancied putting one in Sheldon for a while now

I too have wanted one for a while, as cool as the aerials are I wouldn't mind an internal one if at all possible to avoid paint damage!

Possibly. However I have considered a stubby one on parcel shelf with parcel shelf carpet removed. I think that ought to be just as good as external one as earthing is the main thing

They're crap though, to get anything working well you need height unfortunately. I still have all my gear including a SWR meter to trim the antenna to the set. If anyone wants help getting it to work well, let me know Gutter mounts work really well on minis and if fitted with plastic protection won't damage paintwork either

It only needs to work between us, few 100m most so surely we don't need mega long whip aerials?

You'd be lucky to get a couple of hundred metres with a parcel shelf mounted one, they really are that bad! Very directional too

Maybe invest in some decent walkie talkies

I've had those too, even worse reception in a car than trying to shout, a good mag mount (biggest diameter you can find) and a fairly small antenna will do the job fine, needs to be on the outside of the car or the car acts like a signal blocker, if we all had 18" antennas on mag mounts then a good couple of miles reception would easily be possible. I'll have a gutter mount and 4' twig, mainly 'cos I already have it. In a mini an external speaker mounted near the seatbelt top mount area is a a necessity if you want to hear other people and an external PA speaker can be great fun too, it's all dead easy to set up
