So after months of grafting getting our cars ready, some needing more work than others the big weekend finally arrived and apart from a snapped timing chain on one of the members cars it all went really well, obviously I'm talking about the 34th world famous London to Brighton Mini run organised by the London and Surrey Mini Owners Club or LSMOC as they are commonly known, It's not a small feat running the event as over 2000 Minis take part, with enthusiastic owners from all walks of life arriving at Crystal Palace on the 3rd Saturday in May to set up camp for the night ready to leave bright and early on Sunday Morning, well that is if you like camping for one night, me we prefer to have a mooch round the cars at CP on Saturday stay the night in a local hotel and arrive at CP on Sunday morning nice and refreshed. I have taken part for almost 30 years on and off and I really can't put my finger on why we love this event so much. Is it getting the cars ready before, Is it wondering round the camp site on Saturday looking at the cars, talking to owners having a bit of banter with them, Is it seeing all the thousands of Minis lined up at CP on Sunday Morning with drivers eager to leave and wind their way through London on their way Brighton, alongside all the other daily traffic. Is it the super excited people on the foot paths and bridges all waving us through taking photos, Is it the stop at Pease Pottage for the much needed toilet stop and morning coffee and an opportunity to look at more Minis, Is it all the queues waiting to get onto Dukes Mound wondering if you will end up left or right on Madeira Drive, hmm maybe not that!, but I'd say it's all the rest and more, It's about being part of one big family, It's seeing a Mini you used to own on the run then realising you restored that Mini the one you're driving and the two following. It's just a great weekend away with mates and every year I say I'm not going next year although I usually prove myself wrong, so here's to the 35th L2B or not........ Hahahaha
